What is Calmbirth®?
Imagine a calm and joyful beginning to your baby’s life.
calmbirth® is a simple yet effective childbirth education programme which acknowledges the amazing ability of a mother’s body to work as one with her unborn child to give birth. calmbirth® empowers the mother and her partner to birth with wonder and joy.
Birth is a natural process which should be experienced fearlessly, calmly and with confidence. calmbirth® teaches pregnant mothers, fathers or birthing companions the skills to accomplish such an experience.
calmbirth® encourages mothers to surrender to the process of their labour and birth no matter how it unfolds. If, for some reason intervention is needed couples can use the skills learnt in the calmbirth® class to meet any challenge they encounter calmly and without fear.
The course is carefully designed to enable couples to learn:
- to access their natural inner resources to alleviate the fear , anxiety and tension
- the practical skills of Relaxation, Breathing and Visualisation
- how the mother’s body is designed to birth her baby and how to work with the process rather than resist it
- the importance of beliefs and attitudes about birth and how these can be one of the major differences between a positive or negative birth experience
- the importance of bonding with their baby and how this effects their baby’s future life
- to be empowered to take control of their own birthing experience
It is recommended to attend the Calmbirth® course between 24 and 32 weeks pregnant.

Heres what couples have to say:
“I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know about the arrival of our beautiful daughter Angelica. My husband and I along with my sister attended your calmbirth class in June. As a third time mum I was looking for a different experience and it was in fact my obstetrician who recommended calmbirth.
I am so estatic and grateful to say this birth experience was everything I had hoped for. The ideas in the class really resonated with me, as did your flexible and open delivery of the class. I found the breathing and relaxation exercises very useful and I practised them while relaxing in the bath in the few weeks leadin gup to the birth.
My obstetician was of course fully supportive and was happy to let it all go naturally even when Angelica was a week overdue and still nothing happening! When it all started I was determined to stay as long as I could at home and in my own space. I laboured during the night, quiety and I must say peacefully (with husband and 2 children sleeping in the other rooms!). In the early hours of the morning I got into the bath and stayed quite a long time there – always trying to keep my calm breathing and working my way through my little reportoire of visualisations. It worked – by the time the household had woken up I was ready to go.
My sister and husband were with me through the delivery and that was great as they were both able to provide the support and encouragement to keep at it – ‘it’s working’ they’d say ‘look your doing it – your doing great’. And I am so happy to say I actually surprised myself – I did do it – without any pain relief and most importantly without distress or fear – just the experience I was hoping for.
Thank you so much – I really feel that the calmbirth class was important to me to help me see labour and birth in a different light and give me a few different tools to try during the labour and delivery.
I have already recommended your course to a dear friend of mine who has only just found out she is pregnant!”
“A quick update on the arrival of our little one, Hank.
Hank arrived at 2.17am on the 27 May. We didn’t get the homebirth we had planned as he had moved in the days leading up to labour and after 18 hours we realised he was posterior – we moved to the birth centre and ultimately the labour ward where we had an assisted delivery after 30 hours.
I used the calmbirth and visualisations throughout the labour although it really came into play with issues along the way – Hank’s heart rate was up and down and with medical staff insisting on a ceaser my calmbreathing plus an amazing midwife allowed us a vaginal delivery.
Hank is just gorgeous and we are settling well after a hectic arrival. all things aside my birth experince was beautiful – i was able to seperate my desire for a homebirth after things went off the plan and am still happy with the experience – i put this down to people around me and my preperation leading up to Hanks birth.
Looking forward to heading back to the studio in the coming months for mum and bub yoga! ”
“I hope you are doing well. Our beautiful baby girl Olive Cotton was born on the 21st of April at the birth centre, she came to us so
peacefully. My labour was interesting! she was posterior but i soldiered on for 18 hours with no pain relief and just breathing through each
contraction, using acupressure and just being in my own space within, as well as the amazing support of Tenzing my mum and my sister. team work. I
never thought i would have these overwhelming feelings of happiness, Olive brings joy to our lives everyday, we feel so blessed.”
